Kathryn a Maine Educational Talent Search AlumniKathryn knew that going to college would not be easy – her family did not have the financial resources to help send her, nor the knowledge to help her make an informed decision. Kathryn is quick to credit her METS advisor, Kathy Nadeau, with helping her through the college application process. She admits that “it took some convincing” to consider college seriously due to her limited finances, but she knew she needed to go.

Kathryn participated in Americorps and was awarded the Presidents Student Service award. She is currently completing her junior year in college, working toward a bachelors in History and Women’s Studies. Her plans are to enroll in a graduate program at University of Southern Maine…perhaps even a PhD.

Kathryn continues to work hard to afford the increasing costs of tuition and books…she never imagined that “it would take so much work and dedication” to accomplish her dream of becoming a teacher. Kathryn has also continued her community service involvement and is active on-campus.
