Beryl's mother has always encouraged her to do well in school. For her, not doing well in school has never been an option and she would have never imagined not going to college. Her mother has pushed her to pursue her dreams and an education is her means for getting there. Her TRIO advisor has helped her achieve her educational goals by exposing her to programs she wouldn't have known about otherwise. Beryl's advisor supplied her with free SAT fee waivers that she couldn't afford. Her advisor also helped her research information about a secondary school program at Harvard that she took over the summer. Her advisor showed her a scholarship search engine, and is always willing to help her fill out any forms, such as the FAFSA, that she will need in order to further her education. Beryl has always been on high honors. She was accepted into the National Honor Society. She is also a member of the girl's basketball and cross-country teams. After high school she plans to attend a pre-med program at a college in either Boston or New York City. Beryl then wants to go to a medical school and become a pediatrician. Beryl's decision to attend college will allow her to accomplish her life-long goal of becoming a pediatrician. College will provide her with the means to get a good job. Her chosen profession will allow her to help others. |
