image of mets alumniThe thought of not educating herself beyond high school had not occurred to Kelly. She is a potential first-generation college graduate whose parents instilled in her the belief that with hard work and commitment, she could achieve her dreams and aspirations. Kelly has always enjoyed learning and being within a learning environment and plans to continue to do so throughout her life.

When Kelly was ten years old her aunt, a favorite role model, began her freshman year of college. Kelly’s aunt’s academic and subsequent career success has further impressed upon Kelly the importance of continuing her education. Her mother and grandmother, animal trainers, not only encouraged Kelly to follow her dreams, but also have included her in their work. Kelly “quickly became hooked on” this work.

Bonnie Lucas has continually monitored Kelly’s academic progress in relationship to her post-secondary education and ultimate career goals. Bonnie advises strategies for improvement and helps Kelly to build upon her strengths. She has been a resource for continued exploration in Kelly’s career interest, as well as the post-secondary education she will need to obtain it.

Kelly has received her High School’s Student of the Quarter Award, recognizing her work ethic, citizenship, and consistency. Kelly’s strong writing skills have earned her an award in English and she has been named in Who’s Who Among American High School Students. As an avid Equestrian, Kelly has received multiple ribbons competing with the Joy Valley Riders.

Kelly’s future educational plans include qualifying for an Internship program in Animal Training while she is working on a Psychology major and Studio Art minor.

Kelly’s decision to attend college will affect her life as she obtains the education and certification necessary for her to pursue her specific career goals, and also the option to change careers at a different time in her life.
