image of mets alumni, StevieSince the age of 5, Stevie has wanted to be a veterinarian. She has always held a deep fondness for animals. The middle child of three, Stevie has been in Talent Search since 6th grade. Her older sister and younger brother are fellow Talent Search students as well.

Stevie is a senior at a METS High School- she holds an impressive weighted GPA of a 4.1 and is her class’s Honor Essayist. She continues to challenger herself academically by taking three Advanced Placement (AP) classes during her final year of high school.

As early as middle school, Stevie aspired to be a veterinarian. In 7th grade, her family moved into a new house, and the family purchased one cow. She fell in love with her new family pet, “Maggie Mae”. It was at this time Stevie decided to become a large animal veterinarian. Once Maggie Mae joined her family, Stevie joined 4-H’s Young Farmers Beef Club. As a member of this organization, she learned about raising cattle and the beef industry. Additionally, she learned to train cows for specific behaviors and how to groom them for shows. Stevie has participated in a numerous amount of fairs where her animal has been judged in show. In fact, Stevie and Maggie Mae have won ribbons and prize money! This year Stevie became the president of her 4-H Club.

Stevie is most proud of earning the title of a Junior Maine Guide. This training has taught her how to survive in the wilderness. Spending a week in remote location, answering questions of her surroundings and completing a written exam earned her the Junior Maine Guide certification.

Her Talent Search advisor, Danielle Printz, has helped Stevie find the schools leading to her admission into Veterinarian schools as well as give her the resources for further research on schools. METS has given Stevie many opportunities to travel around New England and visit several colleges for comparison. She has visited the University of Vermont, Unity College, University of Maine, Boston College and Tufts University. Stevie is still waiting her hear from the colleges to which she applied and will make her final college decision this spring.
