Greetings from the Maine Educational Opportunity Center!!Please visit us online at http://meoc.maine.edu/ In this month's issue:
I. Taking advantage of Student Services, Part II In our last issue we mentioned that different colleges and universities offer a variety of services to their students. Being aware of what your college has to offer can make a huge impact on your experience as a whole. Taking a few minutes to see what services are available (and that you have likely already paid for as a part of your tuition) is highly recommended. To assist you with this learning opportunity, below is a list of links to the student services pages on various college and university websites in Maine. However, don't expect that these websites will contain a comprehensive list of services. There are likely many services available that are not listed on the college websites, so it is always best to call or visit and ask if you have need of something. If you don't see your school on the below list and would like some assistance finding out what services your school offers their students, email sarahp@umit.maine.edu. Andover College Bates College Beal College Bowdoin College Central Maine Community College College of the Atlantic Colby College Eastern Maine Community College Husson College Kennebec Valley Community College Maine College of Art Maine Maritime Academy New England School of Communications Northern Maine Community College Saint Josephs College Southern Maine Community College Thomas College Unity College University of Maine University of Maine at Augusta University of Maine at Farmington University of Maine at Fort Kent University of Maine at Machias University of Maine at Presque Isle University of New England University of Southern Maine Washington County Community College York County Community College II. Summer Session Classes Thinking of taking a summer class? Does the thought of covering the same material in a shorter amount of time worry you? This is a common concern when one first considers taking a summer class. The idea of completing an entire course in 3-8 weeks is distressing. However, consider this: it will likely be the only class you are taking in that time. While you'll likely have much more daily work in a condensed summer class than you would if you took it spread out over a traditional semester (plan on 2 hours of homework for every hour in class), you won't have to split your attention between 4-5 classes. You can put all your energy into doing well in just that class. For this reason, dedicated students who are not prone to procrastination may find summer classes quite manageable! III.
